Unchain my Heart

This surrealist LEGO steampunk sculpture that won Best in Show at BrickCon 2015 and was featured in Brick Journal magazine.

As the sands of time erode the checkered past, the heart beats to emancipate itself from its chains to find true love....

The concept centers around the heart of an introvert. The robot represents the walls that people can put up between each other. The introvert is weary of holding himself back from love. The robot has freed his heart from the chest and is severing the chains with the blade on its right arm to attain freedom. Once this is complete his lover will cross the sands of time to be with him. She will only be able to enter his heart if these chains are cut and the walls are taken down. In this model the sand pattern represents the sands of time, and the checkers represent all the moves that the man has made in his love life.

Unchain My Heart is perhaps Paul’s most artistic statement to date and certainly one of his most recognized pieces. It has been featured in several books and magazines including the DK LEGO book Absolutely Everything You Need to Know where it is listed at #1 on the Notable LEGO Artworks page.
